I came across this article that discusses the correlation between men who pull their own weight with laundry, dishes, and other household chores and their attractiveness to women. Apparently, a guy who can press his own shirt can also heat up more than the iron. Isn’t it funny how some things that seem fairly obvious to the average woman is often “discovered” by researchers? Not only does a man helping with the household chores show consideration for his wife, it also frees up women to take a breath, relax, and help with, ahem, other things.
A couple tidbits that I found interesting, though not necessarily surprising, were that women with helping husbands had better health and that couples with “feminist” wives had more stable relationships. The first is easy enough:
Husband helps = more downtime for wife = less stress = better health
Okay. Got it. Not the stuff Einstein would’ve written home about. The second part, that feminist couples have more stable relationships, is pretty much the same equation with a tweak on the definitions.
Husband expects to help = Feminist Husband
Wife expects Husband to Help = Feminist Wife
The rest is pretty much the same, just taken to the next logical step: less stress = better health = more stable relationship.
Ta-da! Science meets the 21st century! I certainly believe the research. While I don’t have a problem with the dishes, any man willing and able to do laundry has a world of appeal. I’m thinking Ryan Reynolds, in the utility room, with the whites. Shirt optional. Now that’s what I call hot!
